Barbell Lunge

The barbell lunge is a powerful leg exercise that builds strength in your thighs, bottom, and calves. You perform it by resting a weighted bar on your upper back, stepping one foot forward, and lowering your hips before pushing back up to a standing position.

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand tall with your feet about as wide as your shoulders, holding a barbell across your upper back.
  2. 2Take a controlled step forward with your right leg while keeping your chest lifting up.
  3. 3Lower your hips straight down until your right thigh is flat like a table top.
  4. 4Press firmly into your right heel to stand back up to where you started.
  5. 5Do the same movements with your left leg, switching sides for each repetition.
