Dumbbell Standing Alternate Overhead Press

This shoulder exercise is done while standing up. You push a dumbbell over your head with one arm, then the other. It works your shoulder muscles and uses your arm and stomach muscles to keep you steady.

Dumbbell Standing Alternate Overhead Press demonstration

How to Perform

  1. 1Stand up with your feet as wide as your shoulders. Hold a dumbbell in each hand by your shoulders with your palms facing forward.
  2. 2Push one dumbbell straight up over your head until your arm is all the way straight.
  3. 3Bring that dumbbell back down to your shoulder.
  4. 4Do the exact same thing with the other arm.
  5. 5Keep switching arms until you finish your set.
